The Business
About APA
APA is an exciting theatre school that delivers all aspects of Performing Arts to children all over Sussex. We pride ourselves on learning through fun and encourage every child to be themselves and individually creative.
At APA there is something for everyone whether you enjoy dancing, singing, acting or you love to create characters through makeup and costume, if your child is interested in backstage, front of house, stage design and lighting design at APA we will encourage their passion and strive to deliver opportunities for them to follower their dreams.
We had enormous fun producing a Christmas Concert in December 2019 with over 70 children performing in the stunning setting of All Saints Chapel, Eastbourne. We were very fortunate to be accompanied by an adult orchestra in association with the East Sussex School of Music and to be recorded by a BBC professional. The children were absolutely outstanding performing a range of fabulous songs and drama in fact the audience (of over 250) are still talking about the ‘Christmasaurus’ !
About APA
Halloween
Halloween was an opportunity to play with Special Effects makeup. The children spoke about how realistic SFX can look and how it adds to the character to bring scripts to life. They also worked on how it makes them feel and how realistic it looks. The class then had fun creating horrific injuries!
We often have multiple activities in each class, designing and creating characters not only through Drama and script but how they look has been a highlight for some and designing face charts based on the scenes they were working on in Drama was a brilliant way to get creative.
Mixing It Up
About APA
We love how the children are interested in all areas of the Arts and therefore we try and mix up every term focusing on different elements.
One of the highlights for children before our lock down was the West End Theatre trip to see Matilda. We took 60 children, some of whom had never been to London before, some had never been in a London theatre, on a coach from Eastbourne to the West End. This was a huge success and as soon as the restrictions are lifted, we will be offering trips again. Seeing the children in the theatre not moving a muscle completely engaged by the whole experience, eyes fixed on the stage and loving every second was one of my proudest moments with APA.
Mixing It Up
About APA
APA started with just a small dream in a hall with a stage. It took only a year for the academy to grow, and we now have 9 classes and over 200 children on our books. 2021 is already looking like an exciting year we will be offering LAMDA exams working with the children to get their talents qualified, we are looking to work alongside an agency to offer the children other opportunities to audition for adverts and other exciting roles. This is just the start for APA, we are very excited as to what the future will bring for us and will continue to work to deliver the best experience and create opportunities for the children.
